Book Review: The Road

I finished the novel "The Road" last night.
In case you haven't heard the book is a fictional depiction of a post-apocalyptic or nuclear war world. There are points of action but for the most part the story is of how a man and a boy survive and travel south to escape the winter. Along the way they interact with each other and are always weary of other people. Their driving force is what the man calls "the fire". Every time the boy asks why they continue to live when dieing would be much easier the man replies because we are the bearers of "the fire". This "fire" is their ability to maintain their love for one another, and their humanity towards other humans (they won't stoop to animal like behavior).
I have to say it was a very interesting read. I will admit that some of the writing went over my head, like I wasn't always sure of the significance of the man's dreams or what they meant. On the other hand the relationship between the man and the boy was developed enough to keep me interested and attached. It was a short read too. I wonder if the movie is as good?
